Hello, my name is Nick.
I was born in Newlyn, a fishing port right down in sunny Cornwall back in 1974.
Growing up and living around the harbour I gained an interest for the boats that came and went every day landing their catches. My father is an artist, quite good one too I have to admit and I soon followed in his footsteps painting the different boats as they went about their business.
I went to sea for the first time when I was about 16 on a beam trawler called the Semper Allegro, and I hated every minute of it. The smell, the noise and the whole motion of the boat was horrible so why I'm still fishing is beyond me. When i was 23 I moved to Dunmore East near Waterford in Ireland and started fishing from there. I loved it over there, the people, the scenery and the pubs, such a great time, but its changed a lot now, the fishing isn't so good and its expensive to live so after I burnt my house down i came home. So now I live on a house boat in Penzance harbour.
I'm still fishing but am starting to concentrate more on my art and hope to paint full time eventually using my boat as a live-aboard studio.
